Celebrating 20 Years!

MATE ROV World Championship!

June 23 - 25, 2022 | Long Beach City College, Long Beach, California, USA

Join us as we dive in and celebrate our 20th World Championship of the MATE ROV Competition! For over twenty years, we have inspired future generations to believe in our ocean. It is time, once again, to bring together our global community and challenge our participants to become the blue tech heroes of tomorrow.

This year, the MATE ROV Competition resoundingly accepted the invitation from the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development to explore solutions to problems that impact all of us. We created our 20th-year missions to address these issues in an effort to work towards "delivering the ocean we need for the future we want!”

It’s time to dive in.

Dive in to learn.

MATE Inspiration for Innovation (MATE II) is dedicated to providing students with educational experiences where they are inspired and supported to develop their technical, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills. MATE II’s vision is a global community of learners, inspired by the ocean, innovating and collaborating to address societal challenges.

Dive in to compete.

The MATE ROV Competition uses remotely operated vehicles (a.k.a. underwater robots) to inspire and challenge students to learn and creatively apply science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to solve real-world problems and strengthen their critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Dive in to celebrate.

Be a part of the 20th World Championship and inspire students to learn and grow as innovators, envision their futures, and work together to create solutions to the real-world problems that impact us all. Your donation allow us to educate and inspire students worldwide.

TAKE BLUETECH TO NEW DEPTHS.

  • Understanding how the ocean responds to pressures and taking action to improve management practices is critical for sustainable use and development of this precious resource. Ocean observations and research are critical to predicting the consequences of change, designing ways to mitigate these consequences, and guiding communities to embrace and adapt these practices for the good of us all.

See the full challenge details here.

  • The competition is organized into four competition classes (levels) that range from beginner to advanced - SCOUT, NAVIGATOR, RANGER, PIONEER, and EXPLORER. This allows students to progress to the next level as they build upon their knowledge and skills, and allows us to scale the mission tasks and other (i.e., engineering and communication) components appropriately.
